Physiotherapists and chiropractors are two people who play an important role in relieving patients from pain in different parts of the body. They also help in regaining the motor functionality in the body caused by some accident or prolonged illness.

People often get confused about the scope and capabilities of physiotherapists and chiropractors. Sometimes, these two experts are considered one because of the similarities of their expertise.

However, if we look minutely, then they are different.

Physiotherapists

They are called physical therapists also. They treat patients by prescribing specific exercise program and assistive devices.

A physiotherapist aims to improve the mobility of the patient and reduction in pain. However, his more interest is in bringing back the functionality of the body and not pain reduction. Hence, the treatment method includes several exercises.

Chiropractor

A chiropractor also works with patients who are experiencing pain and drop in the motor actions. It may be due to some prolonged illness or accident.  
When a person needs medical guidance to regain the motor function, then also a chiropractor might be required. 

The focus of a chiropractor is to align the neuromusculoskeletal system. He combines massage, pressure technique and exercise to improve mobility.  He also uses special tools to support his skills.

  • Examining the patient
  • Getting diagnostic reports if required

By looking at the responsibilities and treatment method, it is quite clear that there is a distinctive difference between them.

Therefore, it is not appropriate to use the term interchangeably.  For some problems, you need chiropractic expert whereas for some problems, you need the services of a learned physiotherapist.
In some cases, it is possible that after realigning the spine a person has to meet a physiotherapist to bring back the mobility and flexibility of the joints.  Thus, they work collaboratively manner to resolve the problem.
